Our Health is a Gift
It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of another year and if you ask me, they seem to be passing quicker and quicker than ever before. With each passing year comes an abundance of blessings, challenges and changes that ultimately shape us into an ever fuller, and hopefully improved, version of ourselves. We gain wisdom, experience and responsibility as we age and inevitably our bodies also age as the years pass by. Now you’ve probably heard the saying out there that “everything after 40 is downhill”. While this has unfortunately become a more common reality these days for folks, it is certainly not normal. Although we can’t avoid ageing, our bodies are designed to be healthy and well, long into our 80s, 90s and 100s; we just need the proper environment and strategies to do so.
Designed to Heal
The key is understanding that we are all designed to heal. Our bodies can heal a cut on our arm or a broken leg no matter what age or stage we are without us even having to think about it. How crazy is that? Right from birth all the way until we take our last breath, we have this built in gift of healing. When we nurture this gift and take care of ourselves proactively, our bodies will automatically function at an optimal level and maintain proper balance and function across all systems. This is called homeostasis. Why “life after 40 is downhill” has become so common is because we are no longer finding homeostasis and as a result, our bodies are deteriorating prematurely. This is because health has become much more reactive instead of proactive.
Now the great news is, because we are designed to heal, we can always change our health trajectory, defy the norm and prevent ourselves from becoming a statistic. What we have to realise is that our health is our responsibility. Where we end up 20, 30 or 40 years down the road is a result of what we do now. It’s the small choices made over time, good or bad, that determine whether that future is positive or negative. So what future do you want? I’m sure there isn’t a single person on the planet that doesn’t want to see that future be prosperous but the reality is that good intentions are useless unless followed up with action.

So whether it’s pouring into your cardiovascular health with daily walks, taking care of your spine and nerve system through chiropractic care or even being more present in your key relationships, taking these positive action steps will mean your future in that particular area will look completely different than another who didn’t take action. A recent study predicted that by 2040, 1 in 4 people over 30 will be dealing with a serious illness. That will be considered “normal”. I don’t know about you but I don’t want anything to do with that statistic. So don’t wait. Your health is a gift and something that needs to be taken care of but the hard truth is that no one is going to do it for you. It may feel hard at the moment but the pain of growth in the present is far less painful than the pain of regret and loss down the road. So take action, take one small step in a positive direction and stay consistent; your future self and all those around you will thank you.
A big part of health and wellness is the health of your nerve system and spine. If you are reading this right now, you are probably already taking care of your spinal health and know the benefits of regular chiropractic care even without symptoms. However, there are many folks in each of our circles that don’t and that’s why for the months of November and December we have our Gift of Health. This gives you the opportunity to pass along the gift of a free chiropractic exam and 3 complementary adjustments to those that you love and care for in your life. That’s over $250 in value. So think of those in your life who you want to bless this Christmas season so they can have the best year of health in 2025.
Bless you all, Dr. Matt, Dr B & the NLC Team
