You’ve waited all week to sit on the paper seat and let the guy in the white coat properly diagnose you (so you think). After looking in your ears with a cold stethoscope, checking out your tonsils, and having you remove your shoes and socks he mutters, “It’s all in your head; you look fine to me.”
“It’s all in your head.” I’m sure you’ve heard this before, and I intend to tell you again; albeit, in a much different context.
The ability to be healthy, to have better relationships, to be happier, and to find more meaning in life – these are all things that start in your mind.
On the simplest level: your brain controls every aspect of your health. Your brain tells your muscles how to move, your heart when to beat, your stomach to digest, your immune system to fight infection, and every other function operating under the radar as you read this text.
On a deeper level:
Your mind’s view of yourself and your life shapes everything from your career potential to the level of happiness you presently experience.
Note the word experience in the above sentence. How real is that word? Ever wonder why two people with the same type of cancer have different survival outcomes, or more specifically, attitudes during the battle? Ever wonder why someone with so much of what the world offers (money, status, possession) is miserable, yet someone living in a cardboard box can seemed to have unlocked happiness, peace, and joy? Ever wonder why you get frustrated and stressed out with your spouse while others would jump at the opportunity to have someone in their life?
The truth is the battlefield of life is in your mind. The word of God says we must renew our minds daily and be intentional with our thoughts and the focus of our mind. The people living the most desirable lives are the people who choose to look at the good in life first. The elite choose to find the positive and are committed to constantly focusing their mind on what is good.
Today, choose your thoughts instead of them choosing you.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. Phil 4:8
